What does it mean when you dream about someone?
Have you ever had a dream about someone that left you feeling confused, happy or sad? Well what does it mean when you dream about someone? It’s really quite simple. Every time we sleep our brains are working hard to process what has happened in our lives and what is happening right now. This means that if we think of a person while we sleep (or even just before bed), then they will most likely appear in the form of a dream. What can this tell us though? Am I missing someone if I am having recurring dreams about them?
Dreaming of someone you know
Dreaming about someone you know or like is actually quite a good sign. They mean that you are thinking about them and what they have done for you, or what they could do for you in the future which can be very reassuring!
What do I need to know about dreams?
Interpreting your dreams is not an exact science, and what may seem significant to one person can be totally insignificant to another.
Sometimes we dream about what has happened to us during the day, what we were thinking or feeling at the time.
Other times our dreams are more like a play that all of us put on in order to work through certain issues and come up with solutions.
Why am I dreaming about someone?
If you dream about someone who has recently died or whom you have had a conflict with in the past then it could suggest that there is some unresolved business between the two of you which needs sorting out. This might not necessarily mean that your relationship is over for good though! The idea behind this theory is that during sleep we are able to work through any old issues whilst our conscious mind sleeps so they will no longer affect us when we wake up.
It’s also worth noting what state of health you were in before going into bed; if you’re feeling tired or stressed beforehand then these will likely come across in your dreams as well!
If you’re dreaming of your ex then there could be some unresolved feelings from their relationship that haven’t been dealt with yet – maybe they left because you weren’t good enough for them, so while you’ve moved on physically, what’s going on inside is still raw! This may also happen if an old friend who used to treat you badly pops back into your life again. It can feel like déjà vu sometimes!
It might not necessarily mean anything – it’s just your brain working away but there are some common reasons why people dream:
- to gain closure with an unresolved issue
- as a response to stressors (this means that if something stressful happens before bed then this will appear in our dreams)
- because we want certain things more than others (e.g. attention)
Am I missing someone if I dream about them?
It’s a conclusion we could easily jump to – what if someone we care about pops into our dreams and becomes the star of it? But, dreaming about someone can also mean that you have unresolved issues with them.
Why am I dreaming about someone?
It could be a sign for closure but there are many reasons why people dream – so it’s hard to pinpoint what your specific reason is! One famous example: “The Wizard of Oz” was thought to represent a woman who had never been allowed any independence in her life. In this case, Dorothy represented what she would have liked to do or who she wanted to become were she not under such strict control; another interpretation says that Dorothy represents children everywhere who desire adventure away from their boring suburban existence.
